OUR FOUNDER
Dave Tappin
Born again in 1987 he fellowships at Richlands in Richmond, and stresses that Dare to Dream is Christian based, and have volunteers from a wide Varity of Churches in and around the Durban area. Dave invites all to get involved because it is about reaching the children who need it the most. He asks that anyone that works with HIV/AIDS, street and orphan Children to please contact him.
His love for Children has always been there and his favorite time with the children was on children’s camps. There you really get to know the children he says and you able to impart values into their lives. The direction for Dare to Dream came when watching Oprah, one evening many years ago. Oprah interviewed Paul Newman and at the end they showed his passion and it was the camps he had started. HITWGC that simply means the Hole in the Wall Gang Camps; they work with children that have life threatening illnesses.
In 2002, with numerous sponsors, he was to be able to go to America as a volunteer for ten days. At HITWGC and learned a lot, He met people from all over the world and their input into his life was unmeasurable. On returning planning started in earnest and their first camp was held in January 2005 using Roseland’s Outdoor Adventure Center.
Dave’s work and efforts have laid a foundation of incredible legacy for the children and volunteers who have had the privilege of attending camps. Lives will continue to be impacted because of his dream and how he fought to share this hope with the children of our nation.
